Some 90 years ago, Grythyttan Stålmöbler was manufacturing horseshoes. Today, they produce outdoor furniture in a production chain where they strive to constantly reduce their environmental impact.

At Grythyttan's factory in Grythyttan, in the region of Bergslagen, the chairs, tables and sofas are manufactured to last for generations. The furniture is made from high-quality spring steel, which is carefully inspected before manufacturing can begin. The secret behind the chairs' characteristic rocking lies in the frame, which is manufactured on-site by their blacksmiths. This is a process that cannot be automated but requires feeling and experience to be perfect.

In 1930, Artur Lindqvist (the great-great-grandfather of today's Karl Lindqvist) designed and manufactured Grythyttan's first chair, the A2, which was introduced at The Stockholm Exhibition. The gentle rocking sensation of the sprung steel gave a unique sense of relaxation and the functional design was timeless. Success was immediate, and a complete range of garden furniture soon followed.
